Skaldify Journal: A novel draft becomes a review package

Some Skaldify milestones are quiet, but important. This week, Der Magier aus dem All — Band 1 moved out of open manuscript work and into a proper review package. That means the text has not simply been written; it has been assembled, checked, exported and placed where it can be read calmly before any shop decision is made.

From working draft to review state

The current review version stands at roughly 96,000 words. The last chapter was rebuilt around a local ending rather than a rushed journey to court: pressure from outside reaches Rabenbrück, but the village answers with rules, witnesses, visible work and written counterweight. That choice keeps the book grounded in the social logic that now carries the volume.

The important shift is discipline: a book is not treated as finished because the prose exists. It becomes review-ready only when the reading version is clean, old draft logic has been removed, and the supporting checks can explain what was actually verified.

What the package contains

The review package brings the book into several practical formats: Markdown for source-friendly reading, HTML for quick browser review, DOCX for editorial markup, and EPUB for e-reader checks. It also includes a manifest and review notes, so the package is not a loose folder of exports but a small, auditable release candidate.

That sounds procedural because it is. For Skaldify, this procedure matters. Literature, shop work and automation only become reliable when the boring parts are visible: version boundaries, current files, checks, and the next decision that still belongs to a human review.

Not shop-ready yet

This is not a public sales release. The review package is ready for careful reading; after that may come corrections, cover work, blurb work, metadata, final export and shop staging. Skipping those steps would only make the storefront look faster while moving risk into the reader experience.

So the status is deliberately precise: Band 1 is written, assembled and available for review. The next good step is not hype. It is reading, correcting and turning the book into a final edition only after it has earned that name.
